This collection includes records for the period 1803-1899. Titled Australia Tasmania Civil Registration and includes records of early baptisms, marriages and burials which pre date civil registration which commenced in Tasmania (Van Diemen's Land) December 1838.
If you have already found the reference to an event using the Tasmanian Pioneer Index this will make locating the records much easier. First locate the relevant registration district and use the registration number and date to locate the record. The images for Hobart can be viewed separately to the country and Launceston districts. The records are broken into sections births, deaths and marriages. This recent release of Australian records is the single largest important set of records since Trove digitised Australian newspapers.
without registration number can we locate the records?why records were broken into births, deaths, marriages?
ReplyDeleteYou will require the event date and registration district ( available from the Tas. pioneer index) to locate the record. Some events may not have been registered for days or months after the event. Good luck with your search.
